Backup your computer regularly

Reasons to Backup: Fire, Robbery, Crash, Virus, Accidental Deletion / Change, etc.

There are many ways to backup your computer and various benefits each provide. You can do a mobile backup, such as backing up to tape, cd, or dvd. These are good if you have important information cause these backups can be stored in a safety deposit box or off-site elsewhere... which protects against your house / business burning down, being robbed, etc.

Another way to backup that is more convenient and easier to use consistently is backing up to an external hard drive (or second hard drive in the system). However, these are vulnerable to being destroyed along with your system if you get a virus etc.

There are many programs that can help automate your backup schedule, or you can do it manually using the burning software on your computer.

Download windows security updates

You can setup you computer to download and install updates automatically by going into the control panel and choosing "Windows Update", or "Security Center". There will then be options to schedule it or present you with updates as required. Though it is known that sometimes microsoft releases updates that can actually cause problems, you would be much worse off without the updates.

You can also get the updates manually if you'd like by going to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/
